Lavender Backyard Garden® has been growing Lavandula × intermedia 'Super' on our farm at Marshmeadow Road, Newstead, Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand since 2014. Our body and home range is curated by Samantha, who oversees every harvest and production decision on-site. Our body care, skincare, and wellness formulations are created by Tracey, a certified personal care and cosmetic specialist — ensuring every product meets a professional standard of safety and quality. Everything is made in small batches from our own Waikato harvest — grown, steam-distilled, and packed on-site. No imported oil. No synthetic fragrance.

We grow Lavandula × intermedia 'Super' on our farm at 398 Marshmeadow Road, Newstead, Hamilton, Waikato, and steam-distil our own essential oil on-site. Our formulations contain no imported lavender oil and no synthetic fragrance.

What is linalool and why does it matter in lavender products?

Linalool is the primary aromatic compound in lavender essential oil, responsible for its calming, floral scent. Research suggests linalool may support the nervous system's relaxation response. Our Lavandula × intermedia 'Super' variety is naturally high in linalool, which is why many customers report feeling calmer and more settled after using our sleep sprays, body lotions, and bath products.

What's the difference between a sleep spray and a linen spray?

A sleep spray is formulated specifically for use near the face — on a pillow or eye mask — before bed, with a concentration of lavender essential oil chosen for its calming scent profile. A linen spray is broader in use: it can be sprayed on bedding, towels, wardrobes, or in a room. Both use natural lavender essential oil; the difference is in dilution, application intent, and scent blend.

Are your lavender body products suitable for sensitive skin?

Our body care products are formulated without synthetic fragrance, parabens, or artificial colourants, which makes them a popular choice for people with sensitive skin. However, everyone's skin is different. We recommend doing a patch test before first use. If you have a diagnosed skin condition, please consult a healthcare professional before use.

Can I use lavender body products during pregnancy?

Many customers use our products during pregnancy, but we are not medical professionals and cannot provide medical advice for individual circumstances. We recommend consulting your midwife or GP before using any essential oil-based product during pregnancy.

What lavender home fragrance products do you sell in New Zealand?

Our home fragrance range includes linen sprays in five scent blends (woody cedarwood, earthy vetiver, smoky clary sage, sweet amber, and classic lavender), room sprays, lavender and soy candles, wardrobe sachets, and reed diffusers. All are naturally scented with essential oils from our Waikato farm — no synthetic fragrance.

What is the difference between lavender hand cream and body lotion?

Lavender hand cream is thicker and more concentrated — formulated to deeply nourish and protect hands that are washed frequently or exposed to the elements. Body lotion is lighter and designed to absorb quickly over larger areas of skin after a bath or shower. Both use our farm-distilled lavender essential oil. Not sure which is right for you? How long do your lavender sachets last?

Our dried lavender sachets typically maintain their scent for 3 to 6 months depending on placement and air circulation. To refresh the scent, gently squeeze the sachet to release more of the lavender oils. When the scent fades, you can replace the sachet — the dried lavender inside can also be composted.
