It is a nutrient-dense food which means there are not a lot of calories in blueberries, but they pack in a great amount of vitamins and minerals for your body.

The highest antioxidant value

Poly-phenolic anthocyanidin compounds such as chlorogenic acid, tannins, myricetin, quercetin, kaempferol, carotene-ß, lutein, and zeaxanthin contain antioxidative or antibacterial properties. It protects cells against damage from disease-linked free radicals. Therefore, it helps anti-aging, may inhibit tumor growth, cancers and decreases inflammation.

Blueberries also contain folate, which plays an important role in DNA synthesis, repair and cell growth. It is a critical nutrient in per-pregnacy and first three month of pregnancy as it helps to prevent neural tube defect.

Lower blood sugar levels

Blueberries contain chlorogenic acid which is an antioxidant in plants. It helps lower blood sugar levels and and control blood-glucose levels in type-II diabetes mellitus condition.

Vitamin and minerals rich

Blueberries carry vitamin-C, vitamin-A and vitamin-E to help limit free radical mediated injury to your body. It also has B-complex group of vitamins such as niacin, pyridoxine, folates, and pantothenic acid. These vitamins help in the metabolism of carbohydrates, protein, and fats.

Blueberries contain iron, phosphorous, calcium, magnesium, manganese, zinc, and vitamin K. These minerals and vitamins help to building and maintaining bone and joints structure and strength.

Potassium helps controlling heart rate and blood pressure. Manganese used by the body as a co-factor for the antioxidant enzyme, superoxide dismutase. Both Copper and Iron are required for the red blood cell production and formation.
